INTRODUCTION
Before we open Isaiah we must understand the world he was speaking into. Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah — kings your group just read about in 2 Kings!! He was not writing from a distance — he was standing IN the middle of Judah's spiritual crisis crying out to a people who had forgotten their God.
Isaiah 1-6 opens like a courtroom — God putting His own people on trial. Judah has abandoned their covenant, exchanged genuine worship for empty religion, and chased after idols while the poor and vulnerable were ignored and oppressed. Yet even in the middle of devastating judgment God extends a breathtaking invitation — "Come now, let's settle this" — because judgment was never God's final word.
Everything culminates in Chapter 6 — Isaiah sees God HIGH and LIFTED UP on His throne and falls completely apart. It is only AFTER he is undone, cleansed and commissioned that he says those four powerful words — "Here I am. Send me." 🔥✝️
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Isaiah ministered from approximately 740–700 BC — one of the most turbulent periods in Israel's history!!
